Tasting - Beringer; Main & Vine - Pinot Grigio

 Name: Beringer; Pinot Grigio

Varietal: pinot noir grape

Region: Southeastern Australia

Country: Made in Sonoma, California

Year: 2021

Price: $6.99

Wine Reviews: one of the reviews I found, people rated this wine very highly, they said that it was light and very lemony and zesty with a hint of peach.

Wine Folly: Pinot Noir is a light to medium-bodied wine known for its pale color and complex flavor profile. It features bright red fruit notes, such as raspberry and cherry, complemented by earthy undertones of forest floor, tea leaves, and occasional hints of clove. When oak-aged, it develops subtle vanilla and smoky characteristics. As it matures, flavors of mushroom and leather may emerge.

On the nose, Pinot Noir presents a balance of red fruit aromas with layers of spice and earthiness. It has lower tannins due to its thin skins, high acidity, and moderate alcohol levels, contributing to its silky, elegant mouthfeel. Its combination of fruitiness, acidity, and delicate texture makes it a refined and graceful wine.

My Review:  This wine was very dry, and it had a lot of legs. It had a very weird tastes in the beginning and then the after tastes was actually better than the original taste. I could taste the white peach and the lemon flavor, but after doing the sniff test, I could smell hints of vanilla and it was a very flowery smell, compared to fruity or lemony. I didn't mind this white wine, but I don't think I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't normally drink white wine, especially pinot grigio.

Tasting - Cardinale American Sweet Red

  • Cardinale American Sweet Red
  • Varietal Red Blend
  • Inland Empire Region
  • USA
  • Started in 1967
  • Cost $10.99

The Cardinale American Sweet Red wine was started in San Antonio, Los Angeles California, USA. This red wine has a very oak flavor as well as a lot of berry hints/ and smelled and tasted a lot like juice. This wine is a varietal red blend, made from one type of red grape.

1967 was when the company Cardinale came out with their first wine. This wine has since been modified and has made 3 more other flavors. However, this specific bottle we tried, we could not find out the date that this wine was bottled. What I found was that this wine is from the Inland Empire region, which is the region that San Antonio, Los Angeles California is in.

In my own personal review, this wine was not great and was too sweet for my tastes. I prefer my darker more dry wines, and this wine was very sweet and had a lot of berry flavors. This wine would pair very well with desserts like chocolate cake or pie.

A lot of reviews that I found on this wine was that it was too sweet and tasted like grape juice. Many of the reviews state that it is not good grape juice. However, there are a few reviews that state that this wine is great and has no major flaws.

The Wine Folly website doesn't really have anything on this wine at all. I tried to search it but couldn't fine the brand.

Introduction

 Hello everyone,

My name is Bailey Felter, I am a senior in college at Virginia Tech. I'm majoring in Animal Science and will be commissioning into the Air Force upon graduation. I'm from a small town in North Carolina; however, I have moved around a lot since my dad is in the military. I have 2 siblings and am the oldest of 3.

I have always been interesting in wine, ever since I was in middle school. My parents are big wine drinkers and when I was younger, whenever they tried a new wine, they would let me have a sip when I asked nicely. My parents mostly drank red wines, and every now and again they would have a white, but I was never a fan of those. To me, the white wines tasted like dirt, and sometimes they still do. The only time I have liked any white wines would be if they were a dessert wine, being sweeter than a normal white wine.

My favorite type of wine since I've been able to drink legally and buy my own, would be cabernet sauvignon. I really like the flavor of this type of wine, no matter the brand, and I don't know why but it has a very earthy flavor and isn't very sweet and pairs so well with spaghetti and meatballs. Spaghetti is one of my favorite meals to try and pair wines. Mostly red wines are what I pair with spaghetti but some white wines pair well with it. There was this one red wine over the summer that I had, it was the Apothic brand,

and it was a cabernet sauvignon and it's been the only red wine that I haven't really liked. It was very dry and bitter and to me had too much of an oak/bourbon barrel flavor.

I'm excited for this semester in Geography of Wine and looking forward to expanding my pallet. 🍷
